Play Emerald Beach

Old Game Development

Emerald Beach is the first game I ever developed end to end.  The whole game development process took about 3 months to complete and was built in Stencyl. It was a good challenge with a steep learning curve, my plan was to get it out on Apple’s IOS platform; but that never happened. It’s still in the back of my mind as a game I would like to transfer onto the Iphone but I will need think hard about how I code it!

Fun, easy to grasp, and addictive! The only quibble I have is the situation where three or more gems are already lined up for me and I just have to pick up the top one and drop it back on the same spot. While this may have been an intentional design decision, I would appreciate this game even more if obvious choices like this could be avoided. Nevertheless, excellent game!

Hey Nick thanks for commenting! I’m glad you like the game. I do appreciate it when people take the time to comment constructively!

I can understand where you are coming from in the circumstance where three gems are pre lined up, It wasn’t really a conscience design choice at the time, the gems are randomly generated and every-now and then it happens. In play testing it worked out well and created a sense of a “gamble”.You can indeed do what you suggest by picking then dropping the top one, or you can hold onto that chain and dig out another matching gem to gain extra points. You have two choices, the “easy” option or the “dig out” one more matching gem for the extra point :-)

Hey there Mr Simms, I am loving what you are doing with your game development and am keen to see how you progress with some of your newer projects.  I too myself have started to do game development but nowhere as good as you.  What tools are you using to do this?
