0bj3ct5 – Game Goal and little video

Today’s been pretty fundamental for today I came up with my game idea!

The idea is this:

You’ll play a character who has been ripped into another dimension along with a dead version of yourself. Your not sure why or how, but you’ll soon learn that you must protect your dead self as you both travel through worlds, maybe one day your dead spirit will be re-united when you enter the correct world!

Problem is, there are “seekers“, seekers are agents who’s job it is to seek out objects with unique powers objects that seem to appear when shifts in time occur and every time you get your dead self into a rift there is a shift in time!

So there’s my story and game goal, now it’s a case of translating that into a fun and addictive game.

Today I made a few more changes, I’ve extended the world for deeper exploration and influence, I’ve added a few visual items (crudely at the moment) and I’ve introduced your dead self!

This little video demonstrates how you’ll move your dead self around. No 0bject5 are in use on this video, just the standard gun

Spirit – A game idea

My mind runs away with me sometime and after waking up this morning with some strange markings on my body a little story and game idea popped into my mind, this is it:

A couple much in love are tragically torn apart.

A incident involving a bus ended the life of the woman, the man‘s world fell apart in front of him. He continued his life as much he could doing his day to day job, shopping, feeding their cat, saying hi to the post man, it was boring, lonely and sad. Night time brought only nightmares, memories and flashbacks of the woman’s final moments.

The flashback became more vivid, he hear’s her voice, feels her breath and even sometime’s see’s her in their bedroom.

This is part one of the game, sort of a Tamogotchi style game, you must keep the man alive, completing his mundane tasks, give him “some” meaning to his life. Challenge’s will be presented such as new love, opportunities to move away, and even suicide!

In another world (the other side) the woman is forced to re-live the worst kind of nightmare, enteral life in limbo, you see, she did her part, she died, her fiance didn’t, he lived!

Tasked by demons the woman has to bring her man into her world so they can both move into a new world, a world of peace, a world of togetherness!

The spirit of the lady can enter the world of the man‘s but only for a few seconds at a time, these seconds will be crucial, in these seconds the spirit lady can influence and change the world of the man. You can make his life a misery, you can try and contact him, set up accidents, or you could help him move on with his life and suffer each night until the time when he finally departs.

Now, how would this play on screen, be represented…? I’m not sure. Initial thoughts would be a “dual screen” whereby pressing a button would allow the woman spirit to enter his world. Not sure how the game would end, or how “life” would work, but I like the idea of seconds being very important.

Just ideas, I feel better for getting them out!

Playing Station – Day Thirty Six

This shot was achieved by using a circular lamp (brought from pound land) that scrolls through a colour spectrum.

All I did was wave up and down the lamp across the camera that was set on “bulb” mode.

I didn’t set out to achieve this look, I merely stumbled across it. As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of the PSP/PS3 background.

So, if you want to achieve this look like mine (without Photoshop) simply head down to your local pound shop and look out for a misty sphere object that changes colour over time. Set your camera to long exposure 5 seconds or more, then wave up and down, back and forth the object in front of your camera.

!!Spooked!! – Day Thirty Five

Ok, today’s photo is an odd one! It sent shivers down my spine when I saw it flash up on the preview screen!

I was attempting to trace an object using a new torch (one which I thought may be too bright) I gave up quickly knowing that the light was going to be strong, you can see the red trail that I left as I covered the light with my thumb and moved towards the camera. You can just about make me out (to the right of the photo) but, what freaked me out was the “person” to the left. Now I know it’s probably just a reflection but it still freaked me out and to add a little twist, I walked straight to the camera (the red trail) I didn’t go to my right at all, I certainly didn’t stand still on the right.

Mars Attacks – Day Thirty Four

Playing with glow sticks and a round light I tried to re-create something that looked familiar to the Alien from “Mars Attacks”. I loved the film, it totally cracked me up when I first saw it and I wanted to pay it some homage.

When you compare my Alien to the original Alien from Mars attack (see below my photo) it doesn’t look a thing like it, but I’m hoping I’ve captured the spirit.

P.S there is a mistake in this shot, bonus points for the first person to highlight it!

Spirit – Day Twenty Eight

Playing again with the pitch black and shutter delay I learnt a bit more. I learnt that attempting to recreate a image in my mind is a hell of a lot harder than I thought it would be. It became apparent that the same technique and tools where not going to “cut it”

So on that note I decided that I am going to leave the image in the back of my mind while I continue to experiment controlling light in time and space.

So, today’s experiment, hanging lights from the celling! Why? To begin playing and interacting with objects that don’t physically “exist”, objects that change with every tiny movement.

I learnt that to create considered images using light, I have to “burn” the image into the back of my mind and use that image as a piece of tracing paper.

I could use the tracing paper to mentally track where the light had been and for how long. It was much harder then it sounds, imagine drawing a face with your finger in the air, you would draw a circle to start but where would you put the eyes without any reference? Would they be straight, even, centralised etc…

My lesson today therefore was the tracing paper method. Which led to me think further, why not actually use tracing paper. It won’t be seen if the light is moved quickly enough… Something I’ll try later.

Moving away from the freehand approach I wanted to try a controlled approach, I attached a red bike light to some fishing wire and set the lamp to intermittent flash then swung the lamp.
As soon as the lamp swing fell into a pattern I used the shutter release to start recording the image.

I wanted to create an image of what appeared to be a spirit of some kind exiting the body!
I like the final result but unfortunately missed the mark and the “spirit” is slightly higher than I would have liked.
The lamp being on intermittent gives the spirit a nice dash effect. (look closely at the ends)

Setting wise, this was a 20 to 30 second shot, bulb mode, tripod, shutter release and short f-stop.

Post edit, Photoshop to convert the image to sepia to give it the “old” look.

Camp Fire – Day Ten

Camp Fire

The night time allows me to play with one of my favourite camera functions, TV!

The fire was burning, the night was dark  so I decided to start snapping the camp fire!

I really pleased with the final photograph, it captures the spirit of the flames, the heat of the fire and the darkness of the night. It’ doesn’t however capture the stink of the bomb fire!
